Sophie is my smelly basset puppy. When I first got Sophie I noticed she was urinating what seemed to be more than usual to me, so I took her to the vet. She was diagnosed with a recessed vulva and struvite crystals in her urine. The vet said it is probably her food that’s causing it . Originally she was eating the mainstream puppy food but after some research I switched her to Primal Turkey and Sardine Nuggs and Stella and Chewy’s freeze-dried Raw coated Puppy Kibble Chicken. In my research I found that white meat and less organ meat is better food for dogs that have struvite crystals.
So far so good! She doesn’t urinate as much but she does still smell (bassets have oily hair and that’s another blog on how I’m treating that)
